In some cases, we see patients who had LASIK 10 years ago and now need glasses again – and they often ask can I have surgery again?

In most cases the answer is yes and further treatment is possible, even a decade after the initial laser vision correction procedure.

Laser vision correction normally improves distance vision for life, but natural changes in the prescription can occur and it’s not uncommon to need a second treatment many years later. Your surgeon will tell you which procedure is safest, but consultant specialists at Moorfields Private Eye Hospital usually opt for surface laser treatments like TransPRK No, LASIK or LASEK. They are normally an effective one-shot solution, but can usually be repeated safely if necessary without a time limit on when the repeat treatment can be performed.

Most patients with good distance vision in both eyes will need reading glasses from their mid-forties on. This is a natural age-related change. If this is a problem, further laser treatment to enhance the near range in one eye can be very useful.

The modern wavefront guided excimer lasers used at Moorfields Private prevent most of the light scatter problems that used to be associated with laser vision correction. A range of options are also offered for effective remedial laser treatment in patients who have persistent light scatter problems after laser vision correction using earlier laser systems.

If you have had laser vision correction in the past and you have lost some of the benefit, or have concerns about the results, it is well worth arranging a consultation at Moorfields Private. After seeing your test results, our surgeons can advise as to how we can improve your vision.
