Choosing to have cataract surgery with Moorfields Private gives you access to a wider choice of intraocular lens implants, including premium and multifocal lenses. This could enable you to be less spectacle dependent and, in many cases, free of the need to wear glasses for everyday activities.

Cataract surgery involves replacing the natural lens inside your eye with an artificial one. A benefit of cataract surgery is that the power of the lens implanted can be chosen to tailored requirements. This means that if you wear glasses before surgery, your spectacle prescription can be built into the implanted lens to give you good short or long-distance vision, or both.

Because the procedure can increase freedom from glasses or contact lenses, it is often regarded as preferable to laser refractive surgery such as LASIK in people who are presbyopic, i.e. those who have an age-related need to wear reading glasses, even if they do not have cataracts.

Choosing to have cataract surgery at Moorfields Private gives you access to more advanced lenses that are not available to patients who have surgery within the National Health Service. Our range of lenses include options which allow the eye to focus on both distant and near objects - meaning you may be able to read a book or your phone screen without the need for reading glasses. Lens options to correct astigmatism are also available.
